New assisted living facility coming to Indian Land next summer
Indian Land will welcome a new assisted living facility this summer. Sunflower Springs Assisted Living will be a 102-unit facility offering physical therapy, massage, nurse, beauty, library, and theatre rooms.

Where’s the population boom in York County area today? [Marks/Herald]. The U.S. Census Bureau released its final population estimates for the nation, states, and counties ahead of the official 2020 census counts. Indian Land continues to surge. The data doesn’t break down to the panhandle specifically but does show unincorporated Lancaster County which by population is predominately Indian Land. That unincorporated area has grown 3% in a year. Unincorporated areas account for 86% of the Lancaster County population.
Changes at the pump [The Lancaster News]. For the fifth consecutive year, South Carolina’s motor fuel user fee, or gas tax, which helps support road, bridge, and infrastructure construction in South Carolina, will increase from 24 cents to 26 cents per gallon beginning July 1.
AC Hotel with Uptown views to open in Ballantyne this fall [Hopkins/Axios Charlotte]. The 186-room hotel will be located throughout the first seven floors of the Panorama Tower, which will house office space above the hotel. The tower will have a ballroom for events and a “high-end dining experience” on its 16th floor.
Pilot not injured after crop-dusting helicopter hits power lines, crashes in Union County [WBTV]. The helicopter crashed after striking power lines around 11:40 a.m. along Roscoe Howey Road in Waxhaw, according to Union County deputies. Deputies said the helicopter struck the power lines while crop dusting nearby fields.
Charlotte-area teenager is headed to Scripps National Spelling Bee finals in Florida [Aranda/Charlotte Observer]. Sreethan Gajula of Waxhaw, NC, has reached the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the first Charlotte-area student to do so since 2017. The 14-year-old from Marvin Ridge Middle School in Union County will be joined by 10 other spellers at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida.
More affordable housing proposed for Ballantyne [Mecia/Charlotte Ledger]. A developer submitted plans to the city recently to rezone 36 acres across the street from Ardrey Kell High School in Ballantyne — with a few additional details about what’s planned for the site.
