Opening in mid-October, Farm Haus Butcher and Beer Garden offers quality food, craft beer, and a unique atmosphere. Owner and operator, Tim Hurley saw Farm Haus as an opportunity to focus on a local concept.
“I just love it down here,” said Hurley. “Indian Land is growing tremendously. A lot of young people are moving to the area, and we felt the need for this out here. People want this outdoor experience.”
Owner and operator Tim Hurley
Hurley moved to Charlotte from New York City 20 years ago where he attended culinary school and worked at some of the top restaurants in Manhattan. Since living in Charlotte, Hurley has developed and opened numerous restaurants and entertainment venues, including Have a Nice Day Café, Dixie’s Tavern, and Blackfinn Ameripub.
Director of Marketing and Events, Caty Dover has previously worked with Hurley. “We are so excited to bring a fresh new concept to the area,” she said.
Located on the corner of U.S. 521 and U.S. 160, Farm Haus has taken over the former Reid’s Fine Foods building. Hurley said he found the property over a year ago and jumped on it. “Over 30,000 cars go by the intersection every day,” he said. “But out back, you are on a hill, and it feels like you are miles away.”
The pet-friendly beer garden will soon feature artificial turf and a pergola for shade. “We want it to feel like it’s a little oasis that you can come to and let your worries float away,” added Dover. Flowering trees and greenery have been planted to complete the oasis feel. A newly restored 1949 Spartan Royal Mansion Airstream will serve as the outdoor bar.
Farm Haus is committed to supporting local breweries by serving 40 locally crafted beers in addition to a full bar.
The commitment to local doesn’t stop at the beers. Farm Haus will support local farms and small businesses in the area by hosting a small market stand with locally made products to sell.
THE FOOD
Farm Haus has partnered with Heritage Farms Cheshire Pork, a heritage breed pork producer located in Goldsboro, NC.
Jason Murphy, a chef and partner in the venture, has been making sausages for 20 years. “The quality of the pork is off the charts and is exceptional for making sausage,” said Murphy.
“One of the things that we are doing that is unique, is that rather than just using the pork butt, we are using the entire shoulder,” Murphy explained. “You’ve got a lot of different flavors in there, and when you combine them all together, it gives the sausages a really unique flavor.”
According to Murphy, Farm Haus will also grind its own meat. “All of our sausages and burgers are made fresh with 100% whole muscle–no trimmings–and clean fat, and won’t have any preservatives,” he added.
For chicken, Farm Haus partnered with Springer Mountain Farms in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which is American Humane Certified.
According to Murphy, Farm Haus is committed to staying away from factory farming by sourcing humanely raised meats. “It costs a bit more, but the quality of the product is worth it,” said Murphy.
“We are trying to keep things as local as possible,” explained Murphy. “We just want this to be a community spot with some deep roots. Not only with the people here but with the traditions of where we are and with the ingredients of where we are.”

Sounds like Kev could use a beer
Great, another beer garden...and at a big, already crazy intersection where there are tons of accidents.
