Waxhaw husband and wife team, Paul and Ashley Pullas are the owners of Taczie, a small business selling handwoven artisan baskets.
The Pullases both work full-time and created this venture on the side in 2019. Ashley works for a local mortgage company, and Paul works in the financial industry. “He’s the money maker, and I’m the planner,” said Ashley.
We wanted to become entrepreneurs because we have three young kids and want them to see that you can accomplish anything you want as long as you put your mind to it,” said Paul.
In addition to their two full-time jobs, new business venture, and three children, the couple also has three dogs, two of which were the inspiration for the company’s name– Tank and Ozzie.
Taczie features one basket design that is available in two different patterns, natural and zigzag. More designs will be available in the future. The basket can be popped up to its full size with handles or only popped halfway up to create a smaller basket without handles. “The idea is to make it your own,” said Ashley. “You can use them as-is, or style them to match your decor.”

The baskets are made from 100-percent natural seagrass and come with a protective plastic insert for use with household plants. The couple uses their baskets for everything, including dog toys and leashes, kids’ supplies, plants, and more.

The baskets are made in China but are designed and tested in the U.S. “The baskets are inspected in China and are then shipped to our homes where we inspect them as well, so they are tested twice,” said Paul.
“Unfortunately with COVID we have not been able to get out in the community as much as I would have liked,” said Ashley. “We shifted gears, and we’ve been doing much more of an online push.”
In the future, the Pullases hope to find local stores to sell their baskets. “We want to make sure that we align with that company,” said Ashley. “We want it to feel organic and natural.” For now, the baskets are available for purchase through the company’s website as well as through Amazon.
