Hall Family Farm to open next week in new location in Van Wyck

Hall Family Farm will welcome families to their new location next week. The farm has been a popular destination for strawberries, pumpkins, and family fun for South Charlotte families since 2008. Originally located off Providence Road West in Ballantyne, the new location will be near Van Wyck Elementary School.
Kevin and his wife Lara Hall shared the land in Ballantyne with extended family and always knew selling was an inevitability. In 2019 they sold the land that had been in the family since 1914 to Novant Health. Kevin and Lara were ready. They had purchased over 200 acres of land in Van Wyck in 2015 to be the future home of the Hall Family Farm. The couple has spent the last five years clearing and prepping the land themselves.
“We are recreating everything that we did in Charlotte,” Kevin said. “The biggest difference here is that you don’t see any roads.” With the new farm over eight times the size of the original, the family has more room to spread out activities and add in new ones.
This spring, visitors can pick their own strawberries, purchase local goods such as bread, jams, and honey, walk the bamboo forest, and take in beautiful, sweeping views of the farm.
The kid’s area is back and features a giant sandbox, farm animals, maze, tetherball, and a slide attached to an old fire truck. The tricycles will return in the fall.
New to the farm is a full commercial kitchen where guests can purchase hamburgers, hotdogs, funnel cakes, and more. “Families are coming farther to get here, and we want them to stay awhile and enjoy everything the farm has to offer," Kevin explained.
The Hall family built a 6-acre pond which will serve as an underground irrigation system for the farm. They have plans for water activities and hiking trails in the future.
Opening date: As far as the official opening date, well, that is up to the strawberries. Kevin expects that April 20th with be the opening date. Follow the farm on Facebook for the official opening date. “We have been working 7 days a week, and we are ready,” said Kevin.
