Celebrate National Popcorn Day, January 19, by supporting the Carolina-owned small business Popcorn Heaven.
In honor of the day, the store will be offering party-sized bags of popcorn for $15 (regular price $38) and small bags for just 99 cents (regular price $2.50). In addition, all online orders will receive 10% off until Jan. 21 with code NPD21.
Located at the corner of Lancaster Highway and Johnston Road, Popcorn Heaven offers 50 different flavors of popcorn, from savory to sweet and even spicy and fruity. All popcorn is popped on-site and sold fresh.
Owners Kysha and Daniel Fraizer credit their love of popcorn to their Iowa roots. “Being from Iowa, you eat popcorn all the time,” said Kysha. “I remember my mom taught me how to cook popcorn on the stove.”
A few years ago, the Fraziers’ recipes attracted national attention when Food Network Magazine! named Popcorn Heaven’s Birthday Cake Popcorn among the “best popcorn flavors across the country.” Locally, Charlotte Magazine named Popcorn Heaven the Best Unique Treat in 2020.
“We have learned that flavors are regional,” said Kysah. “This area loves sweets.” Kysah recommends the Carolina Mix, which is a combination of caramel, kettle, and cheese. She also shared that the latest line of flavors is spicy, and it is already popular.
The couple and their two daughters moved to Indian Land in search of warmer weather. After visiting family in the area, the Fraizers decided to stay. “When we went out for dinner, we didn’t have to wear a coat,” Kysha said. “That was it all it took.”
Popcorn Heaven was established in 2014. The Fraziers are now the corporate owners of five locations with independent owner/operators via a licensing model. A new Charlotte location is coming soon.
“One of the biggest things people recognize is the quality of the product,” said Daniel. “You can go buy popcorn anywhere. With us, every time you return you are going to get the same consistency and freshness every day.”
The business has remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic but has reduced store hours. Popcorn Heaven lost revenue from catering events, but online sales increased. The Fraizers also came up with the Virtual FUNdraiser program. The program allows organizations to sell bags or tins of their popcorn and keep 50% of the profit. The popcorn orders are placed online and shipped directly to the customer.
“We just like to make people happy,” Kysha explained. “Making popcorn brings me back to my childhood. Right now, people are home, watching a lot of tv, watching a lot of movies. Come and get a snack for the whole family to enjoy.”
