Calling all skaters! Waxhaw gets a new skate shop
February 2nd, 2023 | Wilson
Elephit Skate Shop is officially open in downtown Waxhaw. Owner Jesse McCrink shares that Elephit is a skateboard-loving, family business. He runs it with his wife Jamie and son Kaleb.
The store was originally started by his brother Sean McCrink in 2012 after he moved to Hawaii. When a spot opened up next to the WXW SK8 Park, Jesse said it was a no-brainer to expand the store.
It is good timing too; the Town of Waxhaw is building a new skatepark right behind the existing one. It will include an amphitheater and will include a pump track. “The city invested a lot into this skatepark, so skaters have the support of the town here,” said Jesse.
In case you are wondering about the store name, Elephit comes from Sean’s love of elephants as well as his passion for viewing skaters as athletes. The name is pronounced Ele-PHIT, a combination of the words “Elephant” and “Fitness.”
“Skaters are just as much of athletes as soccer and football players,” says Jesse. “It takes the same diligence and confidence as the other sports. We want to help these athletes grow.”
The shop features both name-brand items as well as custom Elephit items all created by Sean. All printing and pressing are done in-house which allows them to offer custom, print onsite products for customers as well.
The shop had its soft opening yesterday and has a whole lineup of events this weekend. See below for details. Jesse shares he is most excited about the group cruise this Saturday at noon. He is calling on all skateboard and scooter riders to take a cruise from the store to the skatepark where they will take a group picture that will be blown up and put on the wall of their store.
